Brussels: The European Union has announced a new set of restrictive measures targeting individuals and organizations accused of supporting extremist settler activities in the occupied West Bank. These sanctions are in response to ongoing human rights abuses against Palestinians, which include violence, forced displacement, and dispossession. According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the sanctions fall under the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime. The EU emphasizes that such actions are necessary due to the increasing threats posed by illegal settlement expansion, violent outposts, and the intimidation of Palestinian communities. These activities are seen as undermining the viability of a future Palestinian state and obstructing the path to a peaceful two-state solution. The sanctions specifically target individuals and entities involved in financing or supporting activities linked to settler violence and severe rights violations against Palestinians. Among those affected by the sanctions i s the Nachala Settlement Movement and its director Daniella Weiss, who are accused of promoting actions that lead to the forced displacement of Palestinians. The EU highlighted that outposts associated with this movement were built on privately owned Palestinian land and have been sources of violence. Additionally, the measures target the Israeli NGO Regavim and its director Meir Deutsch for their efforts to demolish Palestinian property and expand Israeli control in the West Bank. The organization has notably campaigned for the demolition of an EU-funded Palestinian school near Bethlehem. Hashomer Yosh and its president Avichai Suissa have also been sanctioned for supporting violent outposts and recruiting armed volunteers involved in attacks against Palestinians. Furthermore, the Amana cooperative association, connected to the Gush Emunim settler movement, faces sanctions for its role in initiating and financing violent outposts and settlements. Under these measures, sanctioned individuals and entities w ill face asset freezes, bans on receiving funds or economic resources from EU persons or organizations, and travel bans preventing their entry into EU member states.
