Cairo: The Jordanian-Egyptian-French tripartite summit, held in Cairo, brought together Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit underscored that maintaining order and security in Gaza and the Palestinian territories must be exclusively managed by the Palestinian Authority, with substantial regional and international backing.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the leaders expressed their willingness to support this initiative in coordination with their partners. In a joint statement, they urged an immediate return to the ceasefire, the protection of Palestinians, and the provision of immediate and comprehensive access to emergency humanitarian aid.
The leaders also advocated for the enforcement of the ceasefire agreement signed on January 19, which includes the release of all prisoners and detainees and the assurance of security for all involved parties. They emphasized that protecting civilians and humanitarian workers, as well as ensuring unfettered access to aid, are obligations dictated by international law and humanitarian law.
The summit attendees expressed significant concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, calling for a halt to unilateral actions that could jeopardize the feasibility of a two-state solution and escalate tensions. They highlighted the importance of respecting the historical status quo of Jerusalem's holy sites and rejected any efforts to displace Palestinians or annex Palestinian territories.
The leaders called for international backing for the Gaza Reconstruction Plan, which was adopted by the Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4 and later endorsed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 7. They discussed strategies for its effective implementation concerning security and governance.
Furthermore, they reaffirmed the necessity to solidify these efforts at the upcoming June conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, to establish a definitive political roadmap for implementing the two-state solution. They also expressed their support for the forthcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference, set to be held in Cairo.
