Post: Egypt Protests Colombia’s Embassy Opening in Jerusalem

Cairo:Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Colombian chargé d'affaires in Cairo to voice strong protest against Colombia's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem. The Egyptian government condemned the move as an unacceptable unilateral step that violates both the city's legal and historical status, as well as relevant international resolutions.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, an informed Egyptian source described the decision as null and void, stating it has no legal effect. The source emphasized that such actions could undermine international efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and may escalate tensions.

In the summons, Egypt highlighted the necessity of respecting the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem and urged against unilateral actions that could hinder the prospects for peace based on a two-state solution. This diplomatic protest follows a recent resolution by the Council of the League of Arab States, which called on member states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to formally express their objections to Colombia's decision and its potential impact on bilateral relations.
