Jericho: Colonists on Saturday raided the Shalalet Al-Auja community north of Jericho, roaming provocatively among residents' homes, a local official said.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Hassan Mleihat, head of the Al-Baydar Association for the Defense of Bedouin Rights, stated that this colonial action cannot be considered an individual or isolated act. He described it as part of a well-planned scheme aimed at creating a climate of fear and ongoing pressure on Bedouin communities, with the goal of emptying the area and forcing residents to leave their lands.
The official condemned these practices as a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law, which prohibit targeting or threatening civilians in their residential areas. He emphasized that the lack of consequences for colonists encourages the repetition and escalation of such crimes.
Mleihat highlighted that the situation in Shalalet Al-Auja represents a compounded crime against both the residents and the land. He called on the international community and human rights institutions to take urgent action to stop colonist attacks and hold the occupation authorities accountable for systematically sponsoring and covering up these violations.
