Post: Colombia’s Embassy Opening in Jerusalem Condemned by 19 Nations

Jerusalem:Foreign ministers from 19 countries, including Palestine, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, have condemned Colombia's decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem. They argue that this move contravenes United Nations Security Council resolutions and undermines international efforts towards achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the ministers issued a joint statement emphasizing that any measure or decision intended to alter the legal or historical status of occupied Jerusalem, or to recognize it as Israel's capital, is null and void and carries no legal effect.

They highlighted that their position aligns with relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, particularly Resolutions 476 and 478 from 1980, which reject attempts to change the character or status of Jerusalem and call on states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city. Jerusalem is part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

The ministers urged the Colombian government to reconsider and reverse its decision, to fulfill its obligations under international law, and to refrain from actions that undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
