Amman: The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, Cheng Jixin, signed an annual grant worth $1.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) at the agency's headquarters in Amman. This financial commitment underscores China's ongoing support for UNRWA's mission.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Ambassador Zheng emphasized China's continuous assistance to UNRWA, highlighting that China's support extends beyond monetary contributions to include medical aid for regions such as the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He pointed out that China has consistently increased its annual contributions to the agency.
Ambassador Zheng highlighted China's longstanding backing of UNRWA since its inception in the late 1940s. He stated that this support is grounded in China's steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause and its advocacy for a comprehensive resolution to the conflict.
Ambassador Zheng expressed appreciation for the agency's efforts in aiding approximately 6 million Palestinian refugees in various regions, including the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the diaspora. He urged the international community to amplify financial and medical support for Palestinians through UNRWA.
He reiterated China's loyal friendship with the Palestinian people, affirming China's backing of their demands and efforts towards achieving a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution.
