Jerusalem: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has publicly criticized the actions of Israeli police in barring Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, from accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to officiate Palm Sunday Mass, labeling it as a breach of the established status quo governing holy sites in the city.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Carney took to X to voice his disappointment over the incident, underscoring that Israel's decision to block Pizzaballa's entry contravenes the historical agreements that maintain the religious balance and harmony at these sacred sites.
The Prime Minister further stressed the importance of allowing individuals of all faiths in Jerusalem to conduct their religious practices "fully, freely, and without fear," highlighting the significance of respecting religious freedoms and traditions in the region.
