CAIRO, Egypt and Britain Tuesday agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination in a bid to push for reaching a ceasefire and ending the aggravating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. This came in a phone conversation between Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, which mainly revolved around the latest situation in the Palestinian territory, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmad Abu Zeid said in a press statement. They also looked into a proposal recently put forward by U.S. President Joe Biden regarding a cessation of hostilities in the enclave, a prisoner swap deal, and mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S., he added. During the contact, both sides underlined that it is crucial to support such efforts and urge Palestinians and Israeli occupation to conclude the deal in order to put an end to the worsening humanitarian crisis, the spokesman noted.
