Cairo: The Arab Parliament marked the 59th anniversary of the June 1967 setback, highlighting it as occurring during one of the most perilous phases in the region's history. This comes amidst ongoing Israeli expansionist, colonial, and displacement policies, along with an unprecedented escalation against the Palestinian people.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the Arab Parliament, through a statement by its speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi, emphasized that current developments indicate a deliberate plan to eliminate the Palestinian cause and enforce a colonial reality by force, contravening international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. The statement highlighted Israel's continued military operations, destruction, and starvation policies in the Gaza Strip despite a ceasefire agreement, while simultaneously accelerating annexation and colonial expansion plans and displacing Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The statement further noted that these policies are intended to establish an apartheid system and target Islamic and Christian holy sites, describing them as an extension of the occupation project that began in 1967. This involves increasingly extreme measures aimed at erasing the historical rights of the Palestinian people and imposing new realities on the ground by force.
Al Yamahi underscored that ongoing Israeli violations against Palestinians, coupled with expanded attacks on Arab territories in southern Lebanon and Syria, pose a direct threat to Arab national security and regional and international peace and security. He urged that the 59th anniversary of the 1967 war should compel the international community to reassess its stance toward the occupation, which continues to defy international will and disregard its legal obligations despite numerous international resolutions affirming the illegality of occupation and colonial settlement activities.
The Arab Parliament called upon the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations, to take up their legal and moral responsibilities by implementing immediate and concrete measures to halt Israeli attacks, end the occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories occupied since 1967, and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
