Jerusalem: Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohammed Al-Yamahi has condemned the continued incursions by groups of colonists into Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces, including the raising of the Israeli flag inside its courtyards and performing provocative acts and dances.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, Al-Yamahi issued a statement on Monday describing these actions as a serious escalation and a continuation of policies aimed at imposing a new reality in occupied Jerusalem. These actions, he emphasized, undermine the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites and attempt to assert alleged sovereignty over Al-Aqsa Mosque, which violates international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Al-Yamahi cautioned that ongoing violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, along with continued activities in Gaza and the West Bank including Jerusalem, are contributing to regional instability and undermining efforts to achieve peace and security.
He affirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque remains a purely Islamic holy site and insisted that any attempts to alter its identity or erase its Arab and Islamic character are destined to fail.
Furthermore, Al-Yamahi renewed his calls on the international community, the UN Security Council, and the United Nations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in halting these violations. He urged them to provide international protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites and to hold those responsible accountable.
