Arab Parliament approves formation of parliamentary team to approach ICC and file lawsuits against Israel

CAIRO: Nasser Abu Bakr, a member of the Arab Parliament, announced that the Arab Parliament approved during a general session held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo a proposal to establish a parliamentary team that will approach the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to file lawsuits against Israel for its crimes against the Palestinian people, who are currently facing genocide.

Abu Bakr told WAFA after the session that 34 members signed the proposal, which was then put to a vote and received unanimous approval, making it an official decision.

The General Secretariat, represented by Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Ahmad al-Jabouri, will work with the Palestinian delegation to determine the process and content of the complaint.

He underscored the importance of pursuing Arab and international efforts to bring lawsuits in the ICC against the crimes of the occupation and to hold its leaders accountable, including issuing arrest warrants for those responsible for the ongoing genocide
against the Palestinian people for over a year.

During the session, Abu Bakr presented the Palestine Committee’s report to the Parliament, updating members on the latest developments in the Palestinian political arena. He commended UNRWA for its crucial role in education, health and support for Palestinians, noting its significant assistance to around 6.4 million refugees.
