Post: Arab League Condemns Israeli Diplomatic Moves in Somaliland

Hargeisa:Cairo Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Nabil Fahmy, has condemned the actions taken by Israel to establish diplomatic representation in the northwestern region of Somalia, known as 'Somaliland.' This includes the presentation of credentials by an Israeli ambassador and the initiation of construction for an Israeli embassy in Hargeisa.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, Fahmy labeled these actions as a severe violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that these moves are part of broader efforts, condemned at both Arab and international levels, aimed at partitioning Somalia and enhancing Israeli influence in the region.

The Arab League reiterated that the 'Somaliland' region remains an integral part of Somalia, opposing any engagement with its authorities outside the national sovereignty framework. The League recalled previous statements and positions, including those from its extraordinary meeting in December 2025 and its session in September 2026, which condemned similar Israeli actions.

The Arab League expressed full solidarity with Somalia and its legitimate institutions, cautioning against the potential impacts of these actions on regional security and stability, particularly in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
