Aboul Gheit Labels Israel as “Root of Tension in the Region”

Cairo: Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated that Israel is the root cause of tension and instability in the Middle East. Speaking during the 51st session of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, Aboul Gheit highlighted the critical and delicate situation currently facing the region.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Aboul Gheit emphasized the ongoing impact of occupation, stressing that it remains the primary source of tension and instability. He asserted that supporters of Israel often attempt to obscure this reality while the continued occupation results in severe atrocities. Aboul Gheit expressed concern over individuals he described as war criminals, who are prepared to escalate violence to pursue plans of ethnic cleansing and undermine the Palestinian cause.

Aboul Gheit further noted the persistent plight of the Palestinian people amidst daily crimes of occupation. He highlighted a recent incident where 140 Palestinians were killed near food distribution centers in a single day, turning these centers into "deadly traps" and intensifying the crisis through deliberate starvation, in violation of war laws and humanitarian norms.

He also criticized the use of veto power, particularly by Washington, in blocking a recent UN Security Council resolution aimed at halting the genocide in Gaza. This action, he argued, enables occupation forces to perpetuate further crimes.

Concluding his remarks, the Arab League Secretary-General stressed the urgent necessity, on moral, humanitarian, religious, and political grounds, to protect the Palestinian people from ongoing crimes. He warned that allowing extremists and those obsessed with violence to dictate the course of events would lead to a catastrophic disaster, affecting future generations.
