Baghdad: The 34th Ordinary Arab Summit commenced in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Arab leaders, and Secretaries-General from the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The summit also welcomed dozens of guests from Arab countries, the European Union, and international organizations.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Kingdom of Bahrain transferred the presidency of the 34th Arab Summit to Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, succeeding its leadership from the 33rd summit. Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani emphasized Bahrain's initiatives in supporting the Palestinian people's right to an independent state, advocating for a two-state solution, and the reconstruction of Gaza, as adopted in the Palestine Summit in Cairo. He called for adherence to ceasefire agreements and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid highlighted the summit's responsibility to promote Arab and regional stability through diplomatic solutions respecting international law. He condemned the systematic genocide faced by Palestinians and reiterated Iraq's rejection of displacement efforts and foreign interference that threaten Arab security and unity.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the need for Palestinians to secure their rights and called for humanitarian aid access. He described the ongoing aggression as historically unprecedented and urged efforts to save the Gaza Strip and reactivate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to support the Palestinian people effectively.
